The Soundtrack of Our Lives…What’s on Yours?

The Soundtrack of Our Lives…What’s on Yours?

By Lauren Chesley

SoLauren Chesley and Will Huggingmetimes it’s all about the anticipation, but when it comes to the moment– it’s far simpler than we expect. My mom always said “keep it simple.” (aka KISS.)

That is certainly the case today. College send off– a strong hug– a quick (my son hoping nobody is watching) kiss on the cheek and poof he is off to college. Poof– I am in the car headed to the airport–one way ticket! Simple!

I must admit the quiet is not so bad. A deep breath and I am on my way. I get to pick the radio station now. Ha!

Today I am the DJ –and as I am driving I have inexplicably decided to create the perfect playlist. Baby boomer songs that make us cry or give us goosebumps.

According to my children I am tone deaf and I never know the words or the tune– which usually inspires me to make up the lyrics and sing even louder! With no Grammy in my future, ever, today I am singing my playlist as loud —and as off key as I want.

It’s a playlist that corresponds to my break out moments of pure freedom and joy, when all feels in sync with the world.

So here’s the playlist boomers, I’m sure recoded on many an iPhone:

Stevie_Nicks_-_19771.  Circle Game – Joni Mitchell. “Cartwheels turn to cartwheels”. Does it get any better?
2.  Landslide – old school Stevie Nicks. “Children get older and I’m getting older too”– climbed a mountain and I turned around”
3.  Sound of Silence- Simon and Garfunkel. “Hello darkness–hello friend”. Think that’s all you need from that one!
4.  Fire and Rain – James Taylor. Actually anything from Sweet Baby James. “I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end”
5.  Teach Your Children–Crosby Stills Nash. “You who are on the road must have a code that you can live by–”
6.  Vienna-Billy Joel. “Slow down you crazy child– you’re so ambitious for a juvenile”
7.  Forever Young – Bob Dylan. “I want to be forever young”. Enough said!
8.  Someone Like You – Adele. Who cares about the lyrics. Her voice is goosebump/tear worthy!
9.  Yesterday – Paul McCartney –no explanation needed.
10. Desperado – Eagles. Great high school memories. We all have that song? It’s not just me!

So -I’ve laughed and cried and cheered myself on all the way to the airport. I’m going to be ok! I’ve got a playlist.

I would love to hear those songs or lyrics that give you goosebumps– or tears– or conjure up just solid great memories … What’s in your repertoire? Sing it!

Journey on with me—

Lauren
