We Never Forget Birthdays

We Never Forget Birthdays

Lauren Chesley's Mom
Today my mom would have been 78 years old. And nobody loved her birthday more than my mom.

She died too young. All day that Joni Mitchell song, Big Yellow Taxi, has been stuck in my head… “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone…”

Today I am thankful for the memories—for the lessons taught and for the lessons learned. I am mindful on this day, more than any other, that the “stuff” that matters most is the people who matter most.

Maybe you have to get to this halfway point in your own life to really know, but take the time to figure it out.  Then treasure it and hold onto it tightly.

Lauren Chesley Mom BirthdaySometimes precious moments are fleeting…but grasp them while you can. Like this one… a picture from your beautiful 60th birthday celebrated 18 years ago today in Mexico with six grandchildren on your lap. Cheers to you mom! Does it get much better? I am so happy you got to see and embrace what matters most.

Maya Angelou put it simplest, “regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life.” No other words needed.

Sweet comments, Lauren… My mom died five months ago. Even though she had dementia, and I really lost her a long time ago, I miss her. No one will ever love you like your mom. Brenda
